High Stakes Testing and NCLB (Stuart Kahl)

May 15, 12:00–1:00 P.M., Office Building Lunchroom

This session will focus on high-stakes testing in connection with NCLB. Stuart will talk about the upcoming reauthorization of NCLB and our views on the likely and unlikely changes of the law. He will also talk about the law’s impact on the testing industry and education in general, and about competitor errors and how we should deal with them. Finally, he hopes to address the more distant future, 21st century skills education, and the future of testing.

A Balanced Assessment System (Stuart Kahl)

May 17, 12:00–1:00 P.M., Office Building Lunchroom

This session will deal with all the components of a district’s balanced assessment system and related matters. These components define our area of work and the products and services we provide—both in the large-scale market and the local market. In our interactions internally, as well as with the general public, we want to express common views, meanings, etc., regarding formative, interim, and summative assessments; growth models; lexiles; and other currently used terms.
